Third Grade

Summer Greetings
I hope all are having an amazing summer! I can't wait to start the new year and meet all the amazing families and students in the upcoming third grade class! If you are wondering what to do until we meet in August I have a few suggestions!

Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. A few examples include: 19-5=14; 12+7=19; 12-7=5; 14+3=17
Mentally add 10 or 100 from a given number, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number. A few examples include: add 10 to 839; subtract 10 from 819; add 100 to 822; subtract 100 from 729.
These two second grade fluency standards will allow us to build upon our first trimester third grade standards where we look at place value and addition and subtraction.

Read! A goal of reading 4 books would ensure your student is reading throughout the entire summer. Within those books you select, be sure to choose various genres (fantasy, historical fiction, realistic fiction, biography, mystery...) to read. Reading a range of genres will develop a multitude of skills as well as foster an appreciation and perspective of what books offer. Not all books read have to be chapter books, mix up the range to keep interest and fun into your summer reading. Many libraries and book stores do promotional summer reading, check out your local library or book store and see what programs and book selections they have to offer.

Most importantly, be sure to have fun this summer!
Many summer blessings to all! See you soon!
