Eighth Grade

Welcome Back-

Once again, we find ourselves at the start of a new school year.  Eighth grade is an exhilarating time when students often look ahead to high school and all the new adventures that await. As the 8th graders are reaching the end of their journey here at Our Lady of Grace School and are getting ready to go off into the bigger world, it would be a shame to waste this last year only looking to the future. Instead, I hope that this year will also be a time to reflect on the experience thus far and look back on all the memories made here. I know I will do my best to make this year challenging and memorable, a time that the students will remember fondly. I hope the previous lessons and the ones they learn at the end of this journey will help carry them through the start of their new travels to high school and beyond.

Eighth grade will be an exciting and busy time that will go by much faster than anyone can imagine. Besides all of their academic pursuits, eighth graders will experience many other highlights. With the First Grade Buddies, they will celebrate mass, promote community, visit the pumpkin patch and attend "The Grinch". The students will lead the school to exhibit and practice JOY, this year's school theme. The eighth graders will go on Retreat and work on the goals they established the first week of school. At the end of our power and conflict unit, we will visit the Museum of Tolerance and use the visit as a catalyst into the social justice unit. Students will work to create presentations that demonstrate their mastery of the schoolwide learning expectations. The eighth graders will also create their own prayer service in May to demonstrate their gratitude for all those staff members who have helped them in this journey.
